Language Economy in Newspaper Editorials /Kalbos ekonomiškumas laikraščių vedamuosiuose straipsniuose.Šemetaitė, Rima,info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLanguage ; economy ; newspapers ; editorialsWhen analysing the leading articles of various newspapers, it is inevitable to see that they have much more functions than just simply conveying the opinions of the editor or the editorial board, and use different linguistic devices in order to optimize the text within a leading article. The main issue encountered when writing editorials is the fact that there is a very limited amount of space within newspapers, thus an editorial must often be squeezed in within the limits of a single page or a column, while at the same time the author of an editorial must also transmit as much information as possible to his readers. In order to overcome the aforesaid issue, newspaper editorials adopt certain rules, i.e., they follow certain structures and, most importantly, apply certain linguistic devices in order to economize their texts.
