Short summary: The purpose of the Master thesis is after analyzing scientific literature to build research methodology in order to investigate and evaluate current as well as potential effect of Fintech on the financial sector and economy of Lithuania. Main methods of the research: analysis of research literature on the role of financial technologies and transformation of financial sector; overview and examination of scientific articles on the evolution and influence of fintech; fintech statistical data collection and systematization; conduction of expert evaluation study and systematization of obtained results; conduction of regression analysis; analysis of the results. The research was conducting using Gretl and MS Excel programs. The thesis consists of five main parts. The first part is an introduction that presents the concept of financial technology and reveals why this research is useful. The second part analyzes the scientific literature as well as research articles on the fintech and financial sectors. The third part elaborates on the main methods used for the research. Following that, in the fourth part, a practical research is conducted using qualitative as well as quantitative analyses and the results obtained are presented. The last part overlooks conclusions and the main aspects of the research. The principal aspects of the research are highlighted in the fourth and fifth parts of this thesis. The results of the study indicate that financial technologies compete with traditional financial institutions and have a positive impact on the financial sector and the economy in Lithuania.
