Abstract [eng] This dissertation aims to assess the knowledge of healthy eating recommendations and the effect of unhealthy foods on health among Lithuanians, the factors that influence the level of this knowledge, and the impact of public information campaigns. A cross-sectional study was performed, involving 1007 Lithuanians aged 18–75. This dissertation also examines various aspects of information on nutrition and knowledge of it among Lithuanian adults, the factors influencing these aspects, and the relationships between them. These aspects include personal knowledge of nutrition, preferred sources of information on nutrition, and trust in information providers. A large proportion of Lithuanians still lack information on healthy eating recommendations and the effect of unhealthy foods on health. Most Lithuanians acquire information on nutrition online, via radio, or from television. Most Lithuanians trust family doctors, dietitians, other medical specialists, and nutritionists to provide them with information on nutrition. Notably, only a little more than half of all respondents expressed trust in a public health specialist providing information on nutrition.
