Abstract [eng] The dissertation is focused on human experience and relationship with places, as it is reflected in different kinds of stories: folk tales, memories, written historical documents. The research carried out in this thesis is based on concept of story-places – a place as a phenomenon of the lifeworld, the experience of which appears through stories. This allows to temporarily set aside the historical or religious meaning of such places and apprehend them as subjects of human experience. For this thesis, different case studies from various parts in Lithuania were analyzed: folk tales about Šatrija hill, Plateliai lake and Čepkeliai marsh; the narrative of Rambynas hill in Eternal Book of Rambynas (historical document from interwar period) and in personal memories; recollections about Girgždūtė hill. All of the places discussed in the thesis are special and important in their own way to the narrators, and the narratives refer to experiences. Each case has been analyzed individually, but an attempt has been made to identify certain commonalities. The focus was on the phenomena arising from the human relationship to place, and some conceptual aspects of story-places, the possibilities for the future use of this approach, and the relationship to the paradigm of ancient sacred sites in scientific literature were also discussed separately.
