The first part of the dissertation presents the research problem, the relevance of the work and the novelty of researched aspects. The concept of sleep process and sleep problems is discussed, a systematic model explaining children's sleep is presented, on the basis of which the significance of a child's individual, close environment and screen media use factors for children's sleep and sleep problems are discussed. The second part presents the methodology of the research, describes the research process, the peculiarities of the sample, research tools and statistical methods of analysis of research data. The third part presents the results of assessing the direct and indirect effects of the child's individual, family social and emotional environment, screen media use and sleep environment factors while predicting sleep problems of preschool children. The direct and indirect differences of reserach factors are compered between two groups of preschool children (2 – 3 years old and 4 – 5 years old). This section also presents the early manifestations of sleep probkems in preschool children as children grow up and assesses the differences between individual, family social and emotional environment factors, screen media use, and sleep circumstances between children experiencing different sleep problemss. The fourth part of the dissertation discusses the significance of the research results, their compliance with the already existing scientific knowledge and reveals new aspects that contribute to the cognition of sleep problems in preschool children. The limitations of the study, guidelines for further research, recommendations based on the results of the study and the conclusions of the study are also presented. At the end of the dissertation there is a list of references and appendices. |
