Abstract [eng] |
The dissertation “The essence and transformations of moral values: TRUTH and LIE from a cognitive-cultural perspective in Lithuanian and English” is a comparative study from the field of ethnolinguistics, reconstructing and comparing the concepts of TRUTH and LIE in Lithuanian and English. The study aims to investigate their conceptual structures and linguistic expression, to reconstruct their linguo-cultural picture. The objects are studied as linguo-cultural categories, focusing on their semantic and axiological content. The research investigates how these concepts are valued by the Lithuanian and English linguo-cultural communities and where they fall on their axiological scales. It also aims to reveal the diachronic transformations of their perception and evaluation. The work is based on the modified methodology of the linguistic worldview reconstruction developed by the Ethnolinguistic School of Lublin, which allows creating a cognitive definition of the analysed concepts, distinguishing their basic meaning and profiles. The research material consists of the linguistic systemic and textual data retrieved from a wide variety of linguistic sources. The research is multidimensional, encompassing ethnolinguistics, cognitive analysis and philosophical research. It draws not only on the works from the field of linguistics, but also philosophy and psychology, and supplements the linguistic analysis with the philosophical one. |
