Abstract [eng] Treatment options for causative Eustachian tube dysfunction are limited and there is no unified approach to a well-defined and established treatment strategy. Absence of adequate methodology is observed, and the effectiveness of many therapies is questionable or limited. The aim of the study- to determine the effectiveness and prognostic criteria for the surgical treatment of chronic secretory otitis media by applying laser Eustachian tuboplasty and to establish functional changes in the Eustachian tube function by employing objective diagnostic methods. A novel objective test based on sonotubometry using perfect sequences stimuli was researched and introduced in Lithuania in order to examine the Eustachian tube function. The research assessed possibilities to examine the Eustachian tube function in healthy subjects as well as in patients with the nose obstruction and in those with chronic middle ear otitis media. A novel causal treatment for chronic secretory otitis media has been researched and introduced in Lithuania by way of applying laser Eustachian tuboplasty. Prior ineffective, now this treatment enables to achieve good results in patients with chronic secretory otitis media. The results and recommendation described in this thesis will provide essential information for the treatment of chronic otitis media with effusion and will give the basis for further scientific research.
