Abstract [eng] Development of information technologies, social media, e-publishing, and the open access movement determines changes in the formal scholarly communication system; thereby it also transforms the essential role of academic libraries in the scholarly communication process which necessitates development of appropriate services. Research output and research data management, administration and preservation, open access dissemination and implementation, bibliometric analysis – all these practices have become an integral and important part of innovative academic library activities, related to scholarly communication processes. Nowadays academic library is not just a formal actor of scholarly communication process. It aims to be actively involved in the scholarly communication and be considered as equal to participants and partners. Communication is the driving force of science. It encourages and obligates scientists and scholars to publish and share their research outputs. Bibliometric analysis is one of the most common quantitative method used to interpret and evaluate formal communication activities. Bibliometrics can be defined as a quantitative and statistical analysis method for research evaluation, as well as a multidisciplinary area for studies of bibliographical characteristics of science and documents by using statistical and mathematical methods.
