Abstract [eng] This study examines the relationship between the science test results and the socio-economic environment at student and school levels in Lithuania. Hierarchical linear modelling with multilevel sample weights, plausible values and the latest R software package are used to analyse the Programme for International Student Assessment 2015 data. Two separate final models are presented for ninth and tenth graders to identify which socio-economic factors are significant for student achievement. The results could be relevant for the Lithuanian education community to understand the differences between children from different backgrounds. A deeper perception of the causes of differences in performance could have implications for facilitating social justice and helping children with fewer opportunities to achieve more.
