PROBLEMS FACTORS ARISING IN THE PROCESS OF INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN CASE OF MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS Gabrielė VITKAUSKĖ Master thesis Strategic Management of Information Systems master study programme Vilnius University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Supervisor – lekt. J. Lankutis Vilnius, 2023 SUMMARY 64 pages, 12 charts, 21 pictures, 51 references. The main purpose of this master thesis is to identify problems factors which arising in the process of integration of IS in case of M&A. The work consists of three main parts: the analysis of literature, methodology of research and research results, conclusions and recommendations. Literature analysis reveals the concept of M&A and IS integration. It analyzes the types of IS integration, process, it stages and challenges. Also, it presents IS integration, in the case of M&A, influencing factors and problems arising in the process. The research methodology part presents the research model. The chosen mixed qualitative research method combining interview and secondary data analysis is described and justified, and the plan of the research is presented. The third part of the work presents the analysis of the research results and recommendations for further research. The main result of the research is 5 cause-effect diagrams, in which the frequency of factors is represented according to the heat map principle, and the factors are divided into 5 groups of causes. After conducting the research, it was found that one of the problems included in the research was not relevant at the practical level. The most unique factors were revealed when analyzing the problem of negative employee reaction in the process of IS integration. After separating the factors identified in the study from specific problems, two critical, mostly repeated factors emerge: unplanned IS integration and communication. The author believes that the research results will be useful for companies planning IS integration in the context of M&A. The factors that cause specific problems presented in the research results will allow organizations to identify critical problems and eliminate or reduce the risk of factors. |
