GREEN BOND MARKET IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: THE CASE OF LITHUANIA AND ITALY Meda MIKALAINYTĖ Master thesis Finance and banking master study programme Vilnius University, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Supervisor – Doc., Dr. Greta Keliuotytė-Staniulėnienė Vilnius, 2023 SUMMARY 57 pages, 4 charts, 26 pictures, 59 references. The main purpose of this master thesis is to after exploring the benefits of green bonds in economic, financial ways to understand which COVID-19 factors affected green bonds indexes during pandemic period and learn the effect. The work consists of three main parts: the analysis of literature, methodology for the analysis and analysis (case study and regression analysis) and its results, conclusion, and recommendations. Indexes used in the study: S&P ESG Pan-Europe Developed Sovereign Bond USD, S&P Eurozone Sovereign Bond, Dow Jones Italy Titans 30 and S&P Green Bond as well as COVID-19 factors: new COVID-19 cases, new deaths due to COVID-19, fully vaccinated from COVID-19. Analyzed period from 2020-01-31 till 2022-10-14. Literature analysis reviews the main idea of green bonds, presents several different authors positions: how they see green bonds in economy, also pros and cons of it, how green bonds indexes corelate with COVID-19 factors. After the literature analysis the author has carried case study and regression analysis where were compared two counties Italy and Lithuania. In case study and regression analysis were learned that green bonds and green bond indexes and COVID-19 has correlation and impact. In case study – green bonds were successful, due to grown incomes, huge potential in the future met, in regression analysis were found which indexes had most effect from COVID-19 factors. The conclusions and recommendations summarize the main concepts of literature analysis as well as the results of the case study and regression analysis done in a study. |
