This work assesses Russia's propaganda targeting Russian-speaking audience in other countries - the way it demonstrates hostile countries by utilising the narrative of "rusophobia" in the news of "Russia Today" in the period between February 24th of 2022 and November 30th of 2022. Propaganda assigns specific characteristics to the character of described events when it narrates certain events and issues. The countries and country unions are often the characters of "Rusophobia" narrative. In order to deconstruct and understand the image of the enemy in the "Rusophobia" propaganda stories starting from the beginning of the war one has to look back at the structure of "Rusophobia" narrative. The key objective of this work is to analyze the images of the enemy Russia's propaganda constructs that target Russian-speaking audience in other countries, which it aims to achieve it by using "Rusophobia" narrative in the news of "Russia Today" portal in the period between February 24'th of 2022 and November 30'th of 2022. The news directly or in context related to the notion of "Rusophobia" were selected for the analysis. The selection of news was made by using hashtag "rusophobia". The following objectives are set for the subject work, based on the purpose and problem raised: 1. To critically analyze the ways Kremlin and associated media use the narrative of "rusophobia". The work aims to achieve that by using the theoretical approach of social constructivism and conceptualising its characteristic strategy. 2. To present the practical uses of "rusophobia" narrative and determine the evolution of subject narrative. The Narrative of "Russophobia" as the Instrument of Enemy Construction: Analysis of News for 2022 by "Russia today". 3. To analyze the key narratives in the news of "Russia Today" portal related to "rusophobia" and reveal the ways other countries are represented by using the method of strategical narrative analysis. The narrative of "rusophobia" was mainly used by Russian propaganda in the conversations related generally to the West. Special emphasis was placed on Baltic countries and Poland. The images of subject countries were constructed by telling about the ongoing "rusophobia" in the countries, which is the the reason and consequence behind specific problems. |
