This doctoral thesis is the first ever extensive scientific analysis of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics Cardiothoracic Surgery Center’s Congenital Heart Teams experience using the arterial switch operation to treat patients with various forms of transposition of the great arteries. Great results, comparable with the results of the best congenital heart surgery centres in the world, shows that it is possible to maintain a successful congenital heart surgery program in a centre that provides healthcare for a small population with a low birth rate. |
