Eating disorders are a group of mental illnesses associated with dysfunctional eating or weight control, and a major concern about weight or form. These disorders are often associated with high morbidity and mortality. The aim of the study was to investigate the possibilities of dance-movement therapy for the health of people with eating disorders. Objectives: to reveal the theoretical analysis of the concept of eating disorders, to analyze the theoretical aspects of dance-movement therapy and their application in the treatment of eating disorders, to prepare and study the methodological program for people with eating disorders in the context of dance-movement therapy. Research methodology. A qualitative study of the object and a small sample of study participants was selected for the study. In the course of the study, persons with eating disorders were required to conduct an exploratory, pilot study in order to develop a purposeful methodological program before compiling and submitting the methodological program for expert evaluation. At this stage, methods of analysis and systematization of literature sources have been applied, revealing the theoretical foundations of the research problem. An exploratory and expert method was used for the study. Study participants. The exploratory study included 6 individuals with eating disorders. The evaluation of the methodological program was performed by a group of 7 experts. An analysis of the literature has shown that eating disorders are characterized by strong changes in eating behavior and body weight. These disorders can cause a number of psychiatric and somatic complications that affect a person’s quality of life and even mortality. Eating disorders are detrimental to a person’s physical health and interfere with psychosocial activity. People with eating disorders experience many difficulties that cause great psychological experiences: dissatisfaction with their body, even disgust, experiencing difficult emotions, difficult regulation or avoidance of emotions, negative and obsessive thoughts and discomfort, and various difficulties in dealing with others. Dance-movement therapy interventions are effective in dealing with eating disorders. Dance-movement therapy helps to reduce the symptoms of eating disorders, restore the connection between the body and emotions, restore the body's sensations and relate them to their feelings, resolve emotional conflict and work with the acceptance of body image. Dance-movement therapy is known to be body-oriented and therefore suitable for dealing with eating disorders. The results of the empirical study reveal that the developed method of dance-movement therapy is suitable for the health of people with eating disorders. |
