“Siauliai city cultural center” is located in Siauliai city center (Ausros al. 31). The building was built in 1962, during the Soviet occupation in accordance to the planned development requirements. Since then, the building has not been substantially renovated, and now it no longer meets the needs of the Siauliai city population in terms of its appearance, security and purpose. “Reconstruction of cultural center in Siauliai. Design project” work contains a proposal to renew the interior of the cultural center, based on the contemporary society needs for the environment – atmosphere where the expression is born and nurtured, where population develops culturally. An inherent part of the renovation is also the optimization of an integral work in the center, development of the cultural center image as a modern space. To understand the depth of the problem and the need for renovation, the work questions the state of the building construction, condition and functions during different time periods, questions its activities and their impact on society. Analyzing contemporary culture demand of the city, the author conducted a public opinion survey, which brought to the discussion and possible renovation concept. Judging the interior of the cultural center, the main criteria are considered: multi-functionality of the building and versatility, durability and usefulness of the used materials, adaptation of new technologies and how contemporary modern design aesthetics has been applied to this public building interior. The aim of the authors’ cultural center renovation concept was to make the maximum use of the natural lighting, to use environment friendly materials. In some cases if it still meets the technical requirements of the building, the author was seeking to keep and use the old structures, coatings in order to economically exploit already existing resources. It also sought to show the history of the building while retaining the basic structure, to develop renovation in organic way - updating only essential dimensions. Decisions on such aspects as color, texture and substance were taken on the basis of the same criteria. |
