In the XXI c., in the face of ecological catastrophes, outbreaks of new diseases and moral decline, the importance of environmental education is emphasized the task of which is to significantly increase the need for personal initiative and social activity thus ensuring a stable environmental policy. Environmental protection is one the fields where non-governmental organizations are active. As information communication technologies push their way into every aspect of our lives, new requirements for the environmental education of the society are set. The problem of the research is formulated in the following questions: What place do bio-education and Internet technologies occupy in the society’s environmental education activities carried out by the Lithuanian NGOs? What environmental education goals the Lithuanian NGOs set to themselves and how much attention do they pay to the efficiency of their implementation? The methods of the research: the analysis of scientific information as well as strategic and educational documents, the interview of experts by using the Delfi method and the content analysis of websites. The research combines qualitative and quantitative research strategies. The empirical research shows that compared to 2015, the portion of the environmental NGOs which have a website increased from 20% to 61%. But the tendency remains that video, and especially audio, records are poorly used for the educational purposes. It was determined that bio-educational material on the NGOs websites is mostly presented in a text form and illustrated with photographs and redirected to the project websites or social networks with the help of links and interfaces. The environmental NGOs set the goals related to the development of the society’s environmental culture and behaviour. The main factors that help to implement those goals are active involvement of schools and teachers and human resources of the organizations, i.e. competence and enthusiasm of the employees. The most hindering factors are the following: little funding from the state and other sources and the activity continuity problems. |
