Abstract [eng] The linguistic metaphors highlighted in legal texts and the ways of their translation were analyzed in the Thesis. They were analyzed basing upon the Criminal Code of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic and its translation to the Russian language. The peculiarities of the selected metaphors highlighted in legal texts were analyzed; the ways of their translation were studied; the comparative semantic, structural and statistical analyses were done. The comparative analysis of the linguistic metaphors (frequently called clichés, patterns and phrases), their structure, translation and social-cultural context can reveal the nation’s world-view of a certain historic period; provide comprehensive information about the differences and similarities of two languages. The review of scientific works of Russian, Lithuanian and foreign authors is presented in the first part of the Thesis; modern theories and tendencies of metaphor phenomenon study, the peculiarities of linguistic metaphors highlight in legal texts and their translation difficulties are discussed. Structural, semantic, comparative and statistical analyses of linguistic metaphors are done in the practical part of the Thesis. The ways and possibilities of metaphors translation are also defined in this part. The results of the conducted research showed that the main translation difficulties lied not in the cultural differences of the countries, but in the peculiarities of each language: use of the prepositions and cases, different frequency of usage of nouns, words with meaning of different volume in two languages etc. Moreover, there is no such a grammatical category as “padalyvis” (special invariable verbal form) in the Russian language.
