Abstract [eng] The research supplies with the law, regulating defense of children rights; survey of under-age in guardianship institution; analysis of guardianship institution children which is sustained by experience of Lithuanian and foreign countries and which comprises preparation for independent life; under-age education in guardianship institution and the state of youngsters after attaining adulthood is being analyzed in the research. The raised hypothesis is that preparation of already grown up children in sheltered accommodation is not satisfactory for independent life. The research of the questionnaire method was done with the aim to evaluate the preparation for independent life of those, who lost their parent’s care and who have limited or narrowly dysfunctional mind. 96 people of limited or narrowly dysfunctional mind and that lived or are living in the sheltered accommodation were questioned in the research. The empirical part of the research analyzes people’s preparation for independent lives that lived or are living in the sheltered accommodation. The main finding of the empirical research: 1. After fulfillment of the research it is true to say that children from guardianship are being prepared for independent life by rendering them with proper information, practical experience and formulating system of greatest values. 2. When guardianship pupils become adults, they: feel fear to stay alone, to have no close and guiding person; feel permanent tension for exploitation, cheat or cross-purposes while living in the society; do not overtake fear of material difficulties (that they will not be able to find place for living, job, will be short of funds). 3. People who have limited or narrowly dysfunctional mind, lack abilities to choose profession or job. Research participants study in order to acquire profession, though it doesn’t ensure any perspectives while looking for job. 4. Persons who left caring home, argue that trying to find place where to live had a lot of difficulties. 5. Onely a small proportion of children cared in foster home and graduated vocational school are employed. 6. Hypothesis that preparation for independent life to guardianship children is unsatisfactory was proven just partially. People, who leave guardianship institution and start independent lives, are able to do housekeeping, but being alone they face difficulties to find place for living, job and do not understand how it is important to gain education.
