Abstract [eng] The theme of the Master’s Thesis is “PARTICIPLES IN RUSSIAN LEGAL TEXTS AND TRANSLATION THEREOF INTO LITHUANIAN”. The objective of the Thesis is to analyse the participles selected from legal texts; to establish the peculiarities of using of participles in Russian legal texts, the similarities and differences of translation thereof into Lithuanian using the method of component, syntax, comparative and statistical analysis. Functioning of participles, peculiarities of using thereof as well as translational transformations were investigated with reference to the governmental agreements between the Republic of Lithuania and Russian Federation. The research of usage of participles and their constructions in legal texts is immediately concerned with the expression of precision in documents requiring the briefness of information. The potential of senselessness, inaccurate treatment or ambiguous understanding lies behind the text of legal documents. Conflicting are not the texts themselves, but the situations, which may emerge using translated texts, applying them in the practice of separate linguistic situations. The topicality of the study was determined by the relevance and meaning of participial constructions in legal texts, huge possibilities of participle formation in Russian and Lithuanian languages. In the Thesis, there is presented the review of scientific literature concerning the theme of participle formation and usage; particular peculiarities of participle using in legal texts are established. The comparative analysis of the meaning of participial constructions in legal texts was performed on the basis of Lithuanian and Russian scientific studies. The fact of survival of participles and the potential of transformation thereof during translation from Russian to Lithuanian was investigated. In legal texts, the generalised content is the most important; therefore the participial constructions of the passive voice are usually used. Participles are used especially often, whereas the importance of the actor is not subject to necessary emphasising, usually it is pursued to indicate the dynamism of the action, to concretise and define clearly the meaning. Having performed the structural analysis of participles in Russian texts as well as translation thereof into Lithuanian language, it was established that the forms of the present tense of participles were more frequent in legal texts than the ones of the past tense. The results of the syntactical analysis of participles in the both languages demonstrated that the structure of the state juridical document texts consisted of composite asyndetic sentences, where participles usually performed attributive, explanatory functions.
