The dissertation “Trends of Forming Unofficial Urbanonyms of Vilnius in the Language of Lithuanian Youth” represents the first comprehensive attempt to investigate the formation and usage of unofficial urbanonyms by the Lithuanian youth of Vilnius, while also determining their productivity. Based on empirical material, the ways of unofficial name formation in terms of the relationship between unofficial urbanonyms and the official urbanonyms have been established and the trends of their usage have been highlighted. The impact which is made by the official urbanonyms when selecting the base for unofficial names has been explored. Also, the relationship between the choice of particular ways of formation and the subclasses of urbanonyms has been determined. Based on unofficial urbanonyms, the attitude of the Lithuanian youth towards the objects and locations of Vilnius has been established in the dissertation. An interactive map of unofficial names has been created, and a database has been published. They promote the distribution of the amassed data and increase their availability for further research. The classification of unofficial urbanonyms which has been developed in the course of the present research may also serve as the background for other research of unofficial onyms as their system is highly peculiar, and it is denoted by unique trends. |
