Abstract [eng] Topicality of the research. Correpetitoring as an educational service is quite a relevant service education-wise in respect of scientific theoretic, social and practical aspects. Correpetitoring is a “shadow” phenomenon, which increases social inequality and shakes society’s trust in school as the opinion is developed that without assistance of a tutor one would not be able to pass state exams successfully. Correpetitoring services depreciate the ideals of educational reform, and the users of educational services start doubting about the quality of the state’s educational system. The object of the research – correpetitoring as educational service. The goal of the research is to find out the point of view of the first course students concerning tutoring as an educational service. To gain the aim the following goals were set: to sift students’ opinions about tutors and the benefit from their services to students’ learning results, to explore the motives and reasons of the students, which encouraged to refer to the tutors, to establish the distribution of persons which provide tutoring services, to analyze the factors which could reduce the demand of the services provided by the tutors as well as to define students’ point of view to the proportion of correpetitoring and pedagogical ethics. The tool of the research – questionnaire. The scope of the research – 304 first course students from Šiauliai College and the following faculties of Šiauliai University: Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Welfare and Disability Studies, Faculty of Natural Sciences as well as from Vilnius University’s faculties of law. Methods or the research: theoretical, empirical, statistical. Obtained data suggests that correpetitoring, which is in Lithuania as well referred to as “shadow” education, actually does exist in Lithuania. The expedience of choosing the tutor is determined by the lack of students’ self-confidence, distrust of teachers’ competence, quality of education and preparation for exams. Correpetitoring has influence on the learning results as many students state that tutors’ lesson were actually beneficial to them. The main motives and reasons, which encouraged attending tutor’s lessons, were to reach maximum knowledge grades and exam results. Most popular tutors are teachers. Factors which could reduce the demand of tutors’ services are the following: development of the state educational system, development of the schoolteachers’ work quality, changing of the students’ point of view to learning as well as more strict control upon the services provided by the tutors. Evaluation of proportion of correpetitoring and pedagogical ethics depends on various factors, such as student, schoolteacher, occurring circumstances. The research has confirmed the hypothesis of that the demand of correpetitoring as educational service is determined by the lack of the obtained in the general education schools subject knowledge, lack of willingness to improve this knowledge and in this way to reach better results in the state exams, distrust in the quality of preparation the school offers, high motivation related to future professional career as well as psychological reasons (fear, tension, lack of self-confidence).
