Abstract [eng] The incentive of the pedagogues to seek good work results is called teacher motivation. It is one of the functions of educational management. Motivation of the pedagogues and effective performance of the educational institutions becomes problematic as the values of society change and technologies evolve. Usually, educational institutions do not have an incentive system for pedagogues, and only some fragments of the motivation system are noticed. This paper analyses the relevant problematic topic – do schools have a motivation system for pedagogues that would make prerequisites/ assure a higher quality education? Research objective – motivation of pedagogues in educational institutions. The aim of the paper – to ground the necessity of motivation systems for pedagogues in educational institutions, theoretically and practically. Research methods: analysis of the scientific literature, a questionnaire survey, and a structural interview. 60 pedagogues from different educational institutions, such as primary schools, secondary schools, and gymnasiums, and 11 leaders of the educational institutions took part in the research. The first part of the paper analyses theoretical aspects of education management. The second part of the paper is for the analysis of the motivation conception and it’s significance. The third part presents an empirical research of the pedagogues’ motivation system in educational institutions and its results. The paper ends with conclusions, and recommendations are given. Practical and theoretical analysis of the researched problem shows that: 1. Educational organizations are unique; by one criteria they are similar with business institutions, yet different by another. Motivation of pedagogical personnel is an important function of the school management, so the common motivation aspects have to be modified, considering the specifics of the educational system. 2. Motivation – a part of the managing process, meaning the influence on human behaviour. Motives and motivation of pedagogic work refers to the development of teachers, their career, interrelationship, reward, leadership, “spiritual reward”, working with children, watching the results they achieve, and educating the new generation. 3. Empirical research of the pedagogues’ motivation system in educational institutions affirmed the hypothesis that schools do not have a motivation system for pedagogues; however, the expression of some elements of the pedagogues’ motivation system is noticed.
