Abstract [eng] In the paper, we have done the theoretical analysis of the concept of education and the functions of legal education. Hypothesis: 1) schoolbooks for special schools give insufficient knowledge of law, 2) pupils of junior school with slight mental retardation have insufficient knowledge of law, 3) pedagogues asses adequately the legal education of pupils of primary school. The research has been done by the methods of content analysis, interview, and questionnaire, and it was aimed at ascertainment of the situation of legal education in the primary school. We have done the statistical (descriptive of overages) analysis of the data. 187 respondents, of them 111 schoolchildren of primary school with slight mental retardation and 76 pedagogues, which educate them, participated in the research. The most important empirical conclusions that were drawn are:  Analysis of the content of schoolbooks allow stating that the schoolbooks of the primary school intended for special schools give much more legal knowledge that the ones intended for comprehensive schools. The biggest amount of legal categories is given in the schoolbooks of mathematics and cognition of the world. The results of the research did not confirm the hypothesis that the schoolbooks for special schools give insufficient knowledge of law  The hypothesis that the pupils of junior school with slight mental retardation have insufficient knowledge of law, has been proved. We even have not noticed the need of such knowledge. The biggest amount of the legal knowledge is rendered to the pupils by their parents.  The pedagogues agree that the pupils of junior school with slight mental retardation have no sufficient legal knowledge, but give insufficient attention to rendering of such knowledge on their own. There emerged the negative attitude towards the legal education of the pupils of primary school, as the majority of teachers gave their voices for rendering of the legal knowledge for pupil of upper classes. The hypothesis that the pedagogues asses adequately the legal education of pupils of primary school has been not proved. Key words: children of primary school with slight mental retardation, legal education, legal knowledge.
