Abstract [eng] |
Political interpretations of Aeschylus’ tragedies can be separated into two methodological blocks. The first approach treats ancient polis as a main object of thought to evaluate ancient and present-day democracy and discusses its main concepts and ideas. The second approach is concerned with democratic isolation and the role of women in politics. Both approaches focus on the relationships between the tragedy’s characters and how they reveal the beginnings of a network of democratic connections. However, these approaches do not answer the following questions. First, can we view Agamemnon’s and Clytemnestra’s disastrous actions not as a reflection of their familial dispute, but as a reflection of their struggle for political power? Second, can we evaluate the actions of this tragedy’s characters as their planned political predictions? The aim of this paper is to provide a new approach to the political reading of Agamemnon, focusing on political action prognostication. This paper argues that the familial line of this drama is a cover-up to dramatize the discourse of political power and evaluates political prediction and communication issues that arise in this tragedy, answering why do people tend to follow their disastrous political predictions. |
