Abstract [eng] This article examines the footwear of the 17th century Lithuanian town citizens based on archaeological findings. As a typical case, the 17th century footwear findings from an archaeological excavation carried out in the town of Žagarė in 2012 (archaeologist dr. Ernestas Vasiliauskas) are presented and analysed in detail. The two low-cut shoes and three mules discovered in Žagarė remain the most informative archaeological findings representing the footwear of town residents that were found not in the territories of significant old trading centers, but periphery towns. The findings were conserved and restored by the author, with a detailed analysis of their construction, production technology and materials used presented here. Findings are also compared with relevant Western European analogues. Discussions are presented regarding conservation and restoration of these kinds of objects while aiming to maximize information preservation for further research.
