Abstract [eng] Tuberculosis (TB) remains a public health problem of particular importance in Lithuania. Lithuania is among the 18 priority countries for TB incidence in the European region. Tuberculosis is the most frequent AIDS-defining condition in Lithuania. Latent TB infection (LTBI) forms a reservoir of TB in the population. Without eradicating it, TB elimination is not possible. As of June 2018, HIV-positive people were not being tested and treated for LTBI in Lithuania. In the thesis, all the cases of HIV-infected persons with active TB between 2008 and 2020 were assessed to analyse the dynamics of the prevalence and incidence of TB along with the associated factors in the population of HIV-infected persons in Lithuania. The prevalence of LTBI in the HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected persons in Lithuania was evaluated and compared by using the interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) and tuberculin skin test (TST). Factors associated with LTBI in these populations and the most appropriate test method to detect LTBI in the Lithuanian HIV patient population were identified. Based on the results of the thesis, the rational testing sequence for the diagnosis of latent and active TB infection has been defined for the Lithuanian HIV-infected population. The findings of thesis provide the scientific basis for a TB control programme in Lithuania as part of the WHO End TB Programme 2016-2035.
