Abstract [eng] Commonly, the insureds’ behaviour is analysed by evaluating the insurance market expansion dimensions – the distribution of premiums between insurance branches, insurance density, penetration or expansion which show the quantitative level of insurance service consumption in a given country, however, do not provide sufficient insights about consumer decisions, reasons and situations that force them to behave in a certain way when (re)purchasing services or forming their opinion about them and their providers. This is relevant when analysing new, developing insurance markets where citizens, as compared to mature markets, consume insurance at a relatively low level: they are passive, uninterested, ignorant or refusive. Considering the lack of theoretical definitions and conceptual foundations for researching insurance consumer behaviour, this work reveals the perception and contents of the theoretical conception of the insureds’ behaviour, identifies the compound elements of the conception and their relations, systemises the directions of the research conducted within the insured behaviour field, identifies the existing research gaps, presents the author’s research on the behaviour of potential and existing insurance consumers and the systematic evaluation of its results following the created theoretical model of a holistic evaluation for researching insurance service purchase decision making process, and identifies the determinants of insurance service consumption in Lithuania.
