Abstract [eng] Scientific analysis literature has shown that a spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most relevant medical problems and one the most serious injuries which results in the affected structure and integrity of a spine. The above-mentioned lesions lead to a variety of functional, morphological spinal cord and spinal nerve root changes, which results in a severe disability and functional dependence. In scientific sources functional independence is treated as a person’s ability to function independently and without assistance in one’s daily activities. The hypothesis that the participation in the rehabilitation, the use of various types of physical therapy (active and passive) and the active participation in sporting activities have an impact not only on functional independence of the individuals with SCIs but also on their social role valorization is presented.
