Abstract [eng] Efficiency improvement in the power plants, where energy is obtained using alternative energy sources, is relevant, since this is the parameter on which such objects’ productivity payback depends. Thesis explores the renewed solar power plant in Faculty of Technology at Šiauliai University. New modern second generation (5x70 W and 290 W) polycrystalline photo modules were purchased. Solar power monitoring equipment is designed and constructed which performs: solar irradiation and panels’ temperature measurements as well as other measurements related to electrical equipment. This work analyses the solar power station efficiency improvement possibilities and their application in actual solar power station. One of the selected performance-enhancing alternatives being maximum power point tracking method which was designed and implemented using power maximizer device. Power maximizers are of two types: boost-type used for old power station (8x10 W) photo modules and buck-type used for new (290 W) polycrystalline photo modules. Designing these devices analogue, digital and power electronics were used. It was found that the efficiency of these devices is as high as 94 per cent.
