The Relation between Perceived Organizational Prestige and Identification with it SUMMARY Organizational identification is very important factor of the behaviour at work and one of the core conditions that ensures organizational success. Research on identity and identification argues that with whom one interacts strongly influences who one is; and, who one is strongly influences what one feels, thinks, and does. Also, organizational identification is closely related to two images that member of organization feels about it – perceived organizational identity and prestige. The purpose of this study is to investigate employees’ perceived organizational identity, it’s attractiveness, prestige and the strength of identification with the organization connections. In this research we used methods: focus groups, organizational identity evaluation and organizational identity attractiveness questionnaires, graphical organizational identification scale, organizational identification and perceived organizational questionnaires. In the research participated 120 employees, 62 women and 58 men. Participants came from 4 types of organizations: trading networks (“Senukai”, “Topo centras”, and “Norfa”) and one Lithuanian college. Participants aged 18 – 65 years (mean 32.8 years). Our work disclosed that it is very important in organizations’ life how employees perceive organizational identity, prestige and identify with organization. Results show that the attractiveness to the employees of their organization’s perceived organizational identity is positively associated with the employees’ strength of organizational identification – if the perceived attractiveness of organizational identity is bigger, the organizational identification is stronger. Moreover, the attractiveness to the employees of their organization’s perceived organizational identity is positively associated with the employees’ perceived organizational prestige - if the perceived attractiveness of organizational identity is bigger, the organization is perceived as more prestigious. Also, the perceived organizational prestige is positively associated with the employees’ strength of organizational identification – the more prestigious organization is perceived, the more stronger employees’ identification with it. Furthermore, results showed the positive connection between individuals’ age and working experience (years with organization) with the strength of organizational identification – people who work longer period of time in organizations and older individuals stronger identify with organization. The connection between individuals’ age and working experience (years with organization) with perceived organizational prestige was not established. Statistical meaningful difference comparing women and men about organizational identification and perceived prestige was not established too. |
