Abstract [eng] Each dictionary is the reflection of nation's history, culture, social life. Changes in social life change the dictionary: a certain part of the vocabulary becomes outdated, meaning of some words changes, arises the need to include newly formed vocabulary. Subject of the Master's thesis is words, naming the concepts, the definitions of which in the Contemporary Lithuanian Dictionary editions feature ideological interpretation. Aim of the paper is to discuss the reflections of changes in the social life based on the word definitions from the first (DŽ1) and the fourth (DŽ4) editions of Contemporary Lithuanian Dictionary. Comparative, descriptive analytical and computational methods are applied. When Soviet regime politicized all aspects of life, politics and ideological propaganda dominated in every definition of the words in DŽ1. Words that have been passive vocabulary, often characteristic to capitalist system, after restoration of independence were actualized. DŽ4 was purified, i.e. most Soviet concepts-describing words and their meanings were removed, political propaganda words were removed from the definitions and illustrative examples. All of this is found in the both dictionaries and shows the ongoing lexical system evolution.
