Investing is one of the possibilities and it is associated with profitability and risk. It is important that people chose right financial instruments before investing. People have to evaluate not only profitability but also take risk into consideration because otherwise their investment return will be negative. After analyzing financial instruments used in Lithuania and comparing investment portals it was decided to suggest investment evaluation method. This method uses two types of information: from investors and from financial markets. Investor has to give information about his age, income, family, when he will need money and is he ready to take risk. When we have information about investor depending on the financial market situation we can give him advice in which financial instrument he should invest. After performing literature analysis it was noticed that many authors analyses just one financial instrument but don’t compare instruments with each other. Analysis showed that it is important to evaluate risk and profitability before suggesting where to invest. Also it is important to take into consideration financial market situation. Analysis showed that there is no method for investment evaluation. It was decided to suggest method which evaluates not only information from investor but also information from financial market. Expert systems prototype was created to illustrate how this method works. Paper consists of 71 pages, 26 pictures and 13 tables.
