Abstract [eng] The object of this master thesis is the packages of channels broadcasted by Lithuanian cable television operators. The primary objective is to find what model is used to build up the cable television channels‘packages in Lithuania. There are several goals to solve this problem: I need to examine satellite television, as it is the main source of cable television channels; to examine cable and satellite channels by used languages ant to compare them with languages known by Lithuanian population; find out legal restrictions – how is controlled cable television broadcasting, what are peculiarities of the licensing; to examine cable televisions channels by thematic aspect; to find out technological restrictions for the size of channels package and allocation in the bandwidth. I made a qualitative channels packages analysis and comparison between different Lithuanian cable television by different profiles. The results of this thesis allow concluding that Lithuanian cable television operators build up their channels packages from satellite television channels, picked out by the languages known by people in this region of Lithuania. They also checks if it is allowed to broadcast the channel in Lithuania – quite often broadcaster do not have acquired licenses to broadcast in the territory of Lithuania. There is also a thematic filter – most popular are common channels, there are only few specialized channels of news, music, animation, sport in the package, erotic channels are mostly avoided. Quite important is financial-economical filter – some channels are more expensive than others, but amount of the money that subscribers can pay is limited. In bigger cities it is bigger; in smaller towns it is smaller. That is why there are few channels packages – more expensive channels are often scrambled and only subscribers that acquired descramblers and pays bigger subscription fee are allowed to watch them. The economical filter examined in this thesis quite limited, because most cable television operators consider that the prices of channels broadcast license are their commercial secret and do not allowed examining them. One of the last are added national channels – the law of Society information demands to broadcast them in the cable network. Technological filter defines how channels are allocated in the bandwidth. Cable televisions have some not used radio frequencies so forth, but older television sets can not use full bandwidth that is why most popular and national channels are allocated so, that all television sets could show them. Besides, some additional services – like digital television broadcasting, internet, radio channels, and service of fixed telephony – influence allocation of the channels. This master thesis could be useful for the scientist and students of communication field, cable television operators, state institutions which works on regulation of cable televisions.
