Abstract [eng] The Master’s Thesis deals with the situation of a family raising a child with disability, evolution of integration models and theories and the change of priorities in support. By employing the document analysis, the proportion of formally regulated and actually received support for a family raising a child with disability is revealed. After development of assessment model for experience of parents raising children with disabilities, the research has been carried out using the semi-structured interview method. The research subject was experience of parents raising a child with disability related with empowerment. The research aim was to reveal experience of parents raising a child with disability which could make impact on the process of empowerment of families raising children with disabilities. The research was based on the holistic point of view, theories of empowerment, of symbolic interaction, social integration, social constructivism as well as methodological approach of social participation. After carrying out analysis of interview data, i.e. experience of parents raising a child with disability related with empowerment, this experience is presented as preconditions for successful/unsuccessful empowerment supporting to cope with difficulties due to child’s disability as well as the factors interrupting the process of empowerment of families raising children with disabilities are identified. The carried out research allowed drawing the following conclusions: 1. The theory of empowerment and empowerment -based practice are of key significance for a family raising a child with disability; 2. The proportion of formally regulated and actually received support to families is different; 3. Support for families raising children with disabilities is regulated; however, it is not enough coordinated in practice, teams of professionals do not tend to collaborate with other services in a net; the individual support plan is not always being worked out, parents lack information, only minimal assistance is accessible to a pupil with disabilities at educational institution, there is lack of means for meeting not only special educational needs but also special needs of a child; 4. The revealed experience of parents allowed identification of external and internal resources for empowerment of families raising children with disabilities: behaviour and attitudes of the people around mostly disturb empowerment of parents than encourage them; a child with disability is still seen as a source of disorders/problems; passive activities of non-governmental organisations and insularity of families do not allow using this external resource of key importance which would encourage psycho-social resilience, would make impact on empowerment or parents, etc. The proposed hypothesis has been proved, i.e. revelation of experience of parents allows identify the difficulties faced by families in the disability situation as well as development of preconditions for the process of empowerment of families. The present Master’s Thesis provides recommendations which could benefit to encouragement of the process of empowerment of families raising a child with disability.
