Abstract [eng] The subject of this work is communication of human-computer interaction. The objective is to analyze the human-computer interaction from the communication perspective. The main goals are: to review and analyze the conception and evolution of human-computer interaction, to find out the application possibilities of human-computer interaction in communication field; to analyze the process of human-computer interaction design, its characteristics and communication aspects; to formulate and argue the need of communication approach toward the human-computer interaction; to explore the communication of human-computer interaction design and examine the problems that arise during this process. The following methods were used for the research: the literature analysis and synthesis combined with the qualitative interviews. Using relevant literature the popular approaches to human-computer interaction were analyzed from the communication perspective. Eight interaction design-experts were interviewed using the structured qualitative interview method. The collected empirical data was analyzed with relation to the theoretical material. When more and more people interact with the pervasive and ubiquitous computer technologies that deal with variety of users’ goals and requirements, the human-computer interaction becomes the issue of high importance. In order to successfully support users in their working and everyday lives, human-computer interaction has to deal with the increasing amount of communication needs and goals and provide relevant usability and user satisfaction. The user-centered approach to the human-computer interaction design is highly iterative and deals with identification of the users and their needs, development of design alternatives and their evaluation using design representations. The human-computer interaction design has many communicational properties and can be seen as communication of designer’s creativity. Nowadays computers are becoming devices for communication rather then computation. Such shift reveals new requirements and new problems concerning the digital communication compared to the real one. Digital communication lacks many attributes that are essential for real life communication. Thus in order to support communication human-computer interaction has to deal with these problems that are going beyond the engineering level. The new communication approach to human-computer interaction can be used as a framework to understand the nature of human interaction and find ways to improve it in the mediated communication. Such approach to human-computer interaction reveals some relatively unexplored fields such as designing for e-governments that support mass communication and encourage active citizenship. The research showed that communication activities occupy an important part of human-computer interaction designers’ work. The main problem human-computer interaction designers face is the communication of their designs with the other parties involved. However, the design process lacks involvement of primary design users and mainly deals with the secondary or tertiary ones. The primary user testing and direct involvement appeared to be exceptional rather than ordinary practice. Seeing human-computer interaction design as communication of designers’ creativity and directly involving the primary users can contribute to the successful development of designs that support human activities and satisfy their increasing communicational needs. Thus in order to successfully create and develop spaces for human communication the communication perspective towards human-computer interaction has to be considered.
