Abstract [eng] The master's thesis analyses the standards of international law in the execution of punishments related to deprivation of liberty, presents their concept and significance, reviews the methods of implementation and the mechanisms of compliance control, as well as investigates their content and implementation problems in Lithuania. Disclosure of the topic was based on the universally recognized rules of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, emphasizing that persons sentenced to a sentence related to deprivation of liberty only lose the right to free movement, while all their other rights remain and must be respected accordingly. For this reason, appropriate institutional models have been created, such as the European Court of Human Rights, the CPT, which supervises how states comply with human rights requirements both in general and in the area of execution of sentences. The work analyses the purpose of imprisonment, domestic conditions of imprisonment, employment of prisoners, creation of positive relations in places of imprisonment, significance and motivation of employees, education and competence, discipline of prisoners, opening of prison and peculiarities of execution of imprisonment for individual groups of prisoners. These topics are examined on the basis of the standards established in international law, the practice of international and national courts, the conclusions and reports of committees, and the insights of scientists. In addition, the aim is to reveal the existing problems in the implementation of international standards in Lithuania and the changes made after the adoption of the 2023 January 1 Penal enforcement code editorial office of the Republic of Lithuania. The analysis of the topics allows us to draw conclusions that the standards of international law require that, with the exception of deprivation of liberty, all other aspects of the execution of the sentence meet the requirements that respect human dignity, also that the conditions of imprisonment and the internal order of the prison institution, except for elements justified by isolation and the need to maintain discipline, should not increase the suffering of prisoners.
