Abstract [eng] Although health consciousness is commonly associated with health-promoting behaviors and healthier choices, some studies show that even health conscious individuals often engage in unhealthy behaviors. The conflicting results of research on health consciousness may indicate that there are mediating factors that moderate the relationship between health consciousness and actual daily behavior. Knowledge of these mediating factors could help design more effective prevention and intervention programs. This study aimed to investigate whether compensatory health beliefs or impulsivity might be among these mediating factors. The study involved non-probability convenience sampling of young adults (N = 371) ranging in age from 18 to 30 years, with 62% of the sample being female. The study evaluated the lifestyle habits of the participants, used the health consciousness scale, compensatory health beliefs scale and the impulse control scale. The results of the study revealed that health consciousness predicted all domains of health-related behavior, but compensatory health beliefs did not moderate this relationship. Impulsivity only influenced the relationship between health consciousness and smoking.
