Abstract [eng] The aim of the study is to reveal the experience of developing mindfulness in individuals with alcohol addiction during music therapy sessions. The following objectives were set to achieve the aim of the study: 1) Review the issues of addiction and present theories of mindfulness development in this field. 2) Explore the possibilities of applying music therapy in the context of addiction and mindfulness. 3) Use the FFMQ-15 questionnaire to examine which components of mindfulness are most challenging for patients and observe which music therapy methods have an impact on these components. 4) Uncover the experience of developing mindfulness in individuals with alcohol addiction during music therapy sessions. A qualitative study was conducted, employing a phenomenological research strategy using a descriptive-interpretive analysis method. The summary of the study was based on interviews, music therapy sessions, conversations with specialists, and the research data collected through the FFMQ-15 questionnaire. Genetic, social, psychological, and emotional factors influence the susceptibility to alcohol addiction. Individuals dependent on alcohol tend to be more impulsive, sensitive, have low self-esteem, poor emotional self-regulation, and experience relapses and withdrawal symptoms. The method of mindfulness development in the treatment of alcohol addiction helps individuals enhance their attention, self-awareness, impulse control and become aware of the stages of the disease and relapses. Listening to music, performing, improvising, creating songs, and guided imagery music therapy can help develop the abilities of individuals with alcohol addiction to not criticize their thoughts, manage their impulses, anticipate relapses, deepen self-knowledge, increase self-esteem, recognize emotional, physical, and social factors leading to alcohol use. Music improvisation and performance are suitable for developing the ability of individuals to perform tasks attentively, refrain from self-evaluation and reacting to their inner-states, while music listening helps observe bodily sensations, emerging thoughts, and develop the ability to describe emerging sensations. In music therapy sessions, patients were most successful in discovering their positive qualities: increasing self-esteem, and developing a sense of responsibility.
