Introduction: Serum uric acid concentration is one of the risk factors for developing metabolic syndrome, but there is limited data on the influence of water and alcohol consumption on serum uric acid concentration in individuals with metabolic syndrome. Objective: To examine the association between hyperuricemia and alcohol and water consumption in patients diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 650 participants (238 males and 412 females) with metabolic syndrome. The study assessed the relationships between serum uric acid concentration, alcohol and water consumption, and identified clinical and anthropometric parameters influencing serum uric acid concentration. Conclusions: Hyperuricemia was found in 189 individuals (29%). A statistically significant weak linear association between alcohol consumption and serum uric acid concentration was observed in the male group, while the dependence of serum uric acid concentration on water consumption was not statistically significant. Serum uric acid concentration in males weakly correlated directly with waist circumference, triglyceride, and C-reactive protein concentration, while in females, it weakly correlated with C-reactive protein and fasting glucose concentrations. Lower serum uric acid concentration in the male group weakly associated with older age, while in females, it weakly associated with higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration.
