Abstract [eng] |
‘Treatment experiences of young adult women with eating disorders’, Lidija Semionova, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2023, 78 p. Eating disorders, like other mental disorders, have their own treatment specificities. Despite the fact that the symptoms of eating disorders are clearly described, they are one of the most difficult disorders to treat. The aim is to shed light on the experiences of young adult women with eating disorders during eating disorder treatment. The participants were 12 women aged 19-35 with eating disorders. Data were collected by semi-structured interview and analysed by inductive thematic analysis. Four main themes emerged, which reflect the experiences and experiences of treatment for young adult women with eating disorders: change of attitude towards the illness: from denial to acceptance; the 'long search' to find help for treatment; acceptance or rejection of eating disorder treatment; recovery is a continuous struggle with one's eating disorder. This study may be of benefit to family physicians, public health and mental health professionals working with people with eating disorders. |
