A narrative literature review was conducted using the PUBMED and Web of Science databases. Epilepsy statistics were obtained from the World Health Organization and the Lithuanian Institute of Hygiene. The etiopathogenesis, epidemiology, clinical features, diagnostic and treatment recommendations of various autoimmune epilepsies were described, and a clinical case was presented. The clinical case describes a 61-year-old patient treated at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Clinics Neurology Department. The disease manifested as epileptic seizures, phobias, increased anxiety, and was provoked by emotional stress. The diagnosis was based on clinical findings, results of magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, electroencephalography, positive serology for anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase antibodies, and a good response to treatment. |
