R. Garunkštienė, Co-supervisor – doc. dr. A. Vilkelienė Vilnius, 2023 SUMMARY The object of the study is the effect of music therapy on psychological health of postpartum women. Research problem: After giving birth, a woman's emotional and psychological state changes. She becomes more sensitive, dependent on their baby. A number of changes occur in a woman's brain: the gray matter of the brain becomes denser; the amygdala grows. These changes in the brain activate feelings for the child, but suppresses the emotional states of the woman herself. According to statistics, after giving birth up to 80% of women experience episodes of sadness, anxiety and tension, up to 15% postpartum depression, up to 10% post-traumatic stress disorders and 0.1% postpartum psychosis. The main goal of the study is to evaluate the effect of music therapy on the psychological health of women after childbirth. Research participants: Women who gave birth in the last 12 months, aged 22-36 years (n=6). Research methods: Theoretical - literature analysis was performed; Empirical mixed research. The study was conducted in March - April 2023. Results: After analyzing the collected data, a positive effect of music therapy on the psychological state of women after childbirth was observed. According to the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale, all women had symptoms of postpartum depression before the music therapy sessions and had less symptoms after ten music therapy sessions. Also, when comparing the pulse of women before and after the session, a trend of decreasing pulse is observed. Conclusions: Group music therapy is appropriate for postpartum women.
