Abstract [eng] Epilobium Angustifolium which grows in Lithuania and blooms in June has its distinctive properties. The usefulness of teas prepared from this plant has been demonstrated for cold, urinary tract and digestive system diseases, and beaten, swollen and painful areas can be covered with purée made from mashed leaves. They relieve pain and inflammation and reduce swelling. In this work we focused on the teas made out of Epilobium Angustifolium stems, leaves and flowers, also on seven teas were bought from pharmacy. Out of these seven, three were made from fermented raw materials. Results showed that the antioxidant properties of the tea is stronger when increasing the temperature of the water with which the raw material is brewed up. The flowers of the Epilobium Angustifolium have the strongest antioxidant properties and the stems have the weakest. The antioxidant properties of the unfermented teas are stronger than those of fermented ones. A direct relationship between the antioxidant activity of Epilobium Angustifolium teas and the amount of phenolic compounds was established. The main volatile components of the Epilobium Angustifolium teas were identified by solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. High performance liquid chromatography has shown that the main component of unfermented teas is hydrolysable tannin oenothein B. Fermented teas have significantly lower levels of this tannin.
