Abstract [eng] |
The aim of this reaserch is to determine the existing similarities and differences between the usage and semantics of inhoative verbs in Lithuanian and Spanish. The purpose of this study is to find out the main aspects of the semantics and usage of the verbs used for research in this paper. Because of the limited scope of writing for this work, only 3 Lithuanian verbs pūti, irti, grimzti and 3 Spanish verbs pudrirse, descomponerse, hundirse were used for this study. The data for this research is collected using Lithuanian language corpus Dabartinės lietuvių kalbos tekstynas and Spanish language corpus El corpus del español NOW (2012–2019). During the study, 4345 cases of verbs were examined. This research is based on cognitive semantics theory. The method used for this paper was verb Behavioural Profile analysis. During the research, it was found that the changes in the meanings of the studied verbs are partially equivalent. The change in meaning is consistent, but the meanings of the studied verbs are not completely equivalent and their usage, even when the meanings are identical, may also differ. Also, the verbs in Spanish have more metaphorical meanings. The other important aspect is a moral connotation that can be seen in the metaphorical usage of the verbs when the subject of the sentence is a human or a group of people. This work can be interesting and useful for specialists in translation, lexical semantics, and lexical typology. The data obtained using verb Behavioural Profile analysis research can be applied in language acquisition process. |
