Abstract [eng] This literature review highlights the existing association between liver function markers and metabolic syndrome. It presents the results of three studies conducted in Asia within the past decade with different focuses and approaches, but all converging on this correlation. Special emphasis was given to the correlation between single liver enzymes as alanine transferase, aspartate transferase and gamma-glutamyl transferase with metabolic abnormalities. The objective is therefore, to find out more about the particular role of each of these biomarkers in the pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome. These results are subsequently compared with those of other recent studies and concludes that the association between liver function markers and metabolic syndrome can be confirmed.
