93 pages, 17 tables, 8 pictures, 44 literature references, 1 annex. The aim of the master's thesis is to reveal what and how the safety management system application practices influence safety in continuing airworthiness management organisations in Lithuania. The master's thesis consists of an introduction, two chapters, conclusions and proposals, a list of references, a summary in Lithuanian and English, and an annex. The introduction includes the relevance of the topic, the scientific problem, the novelty of the research, the purpose, the tasks and the applied methodology. The first chapter provides an analysis of the scientific literature on the origin and concept of the safety management system and how and what safety management system practices are applied and their impact on safety. The second chapter provides a description of the methodology of the empirical study, the results of the study and their analysis - how and which components of the safety management system and their application practices affect safety in continuing airworthiness management organisations approved in Lithuania. When examining the origin, concept, and components of the safety management system, the theoretical-scientific literature review and analysis methodology was applied. A semi-structured interview survey method is used for data collection during qualitative research. The results of the study, the obtained text data, are coded using the MAXQDA PLUS 2022 software. During the author's research, the main processes and tools (practices) used for the implementation of the safety management system in organizations ensuring continued airworthiness were identified. Based on the results of the empirical study, it can be stated that the individual components of the safety management system and the main processes and practices used to implement them have an impact on safety. This influence manifests itself through people, processes, information and affects safety both directly and indirectly. In order to effectively implement the processes and practices of the safety system, so that they have the highest effectiveness for safety, not only more time and experience is needed for the organisation in working with the safety management system, but also the promotion of a just culture among employees, emphasizing the principle of non-punitive in reporting incidents. In many cases, top management bases their activities on economic aspects, but in the long term, a conscious approach to safety pays off both financially and reputation. Completing the list of processes and practices used for the implementation of the safety management system of continuing airworthiness management organisation and determining the strength of their impact on safety could be the subject of future research. Key words: safety management system, continuing airworthiness management organisation, safety, practice. |
