The research methods: analysis of scientific, methodical literature and documents regulating education; empirical - quantitative research using the questionnaire survey method. The research sample: 25 music educators and 100 adolescents from the ethnographic region of Minor Lithuania. After performing the analysis of scientific literature from educational documents, it can be stated that national identity is national self-awareness, which develops through characteristic features of the nation and is realized in the context of other nations. National identity is distinguished in the documents which regulate education but in general curriculums this education is only a recommendation. The search for identity becomes more active during adolescence when a personal identity crisis is encountered. The complex historical past of Minor Lithuania and the foreigners residing there today can influence the formation of the national identity of adolescents. Musical activity is one of the fields in which national identity can be developed through national characteristics. National identity can be developed by playing music, creating, getting to know music or analyzing the historical or cultural contexts revealed in music. The results of the empirical research showed that music educators aim to develop national identity through various musical activities both in music lessons and in non-formal education in the ethnographic region of Minor Lithuania. National identity is developed with the help of ethnic culture, various educations, celebrating ethnic and/or national holidays.
