Abstract [eng] The aim of the work was to discover in semantic aspect and describe the names of food companies in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. In order to achieve this aim the following problems had been raised: a) to divide Lihuanian names into semantic groups; b) to divide symbolic Lithuanian names into groups according to their stucture; c) to describe the semantic meaning of symbolic Lithuanian names; d) to analyse the connotations of the names of Lithuanian food companies; e) to discuss the balance among the collected symbolic names and the common language. To make this research from the main Internet site www.meniu.lt about food and entertainment fields had been collected the names of 1096 food companies: 596 in Vilnius, 292 in Kaunas and 208 in Klaipėda. Having completed the research it had been noticed that majority of names are made up of one or two words. There are only 5 percent of names made up of three or more words. Noun functions as the main word in both one word and phrasal symbolic names. From semantic point of view the names of the companies are concrete , simple and clear most often directly describing the kind of the company (a cafe, a bar or a restaurant) or the building, country, city or the place in the city, names of different people. The research has shown that in the names of companies dominate potencial signs of cheerfulness, whereas darkness and gloominess, raucousness and stateliness are the rarest ones. Having completed the research it had been determined that non- Lithuanian or semi non- Lithuanian names make up nearly one third of all collected symbolic names. The tendency to choose a foreign name is proved by unclear meanings. However, they obey to the rules of Lithuanian word building. Having analysed the relationships among the names of companies and common language it had been noticed that the main mistakes appear in making symbolic names depending on the kind of the company and also the names made up of foreign words and other subnormal words.
