This thesis aims based on the qualitative method of semi-structured interviews to determine which gender stereotypes are based on the expectations and ideals of Lithuanian Graduates' towards politicians. The object of this research is the stereotypical attitudes of Lithuanian Graduates in politics. The main research question is what gender stereotypes do graduates' rely on in politics? Master thesis "Between Expectation and the Ideal: An Analysis of Lithuanian Graduates' Stereotypical Beliefs on Politics "is divided into four major parts. The first part discusses the theoretical framework presenting the understanding of stereotypes and the mechanism of change, known as gender stereotypes in politics. The second part of the work presents the methodology and explains the choices' methodological motives and arguments. The third part presents the interview results, based on which the research conclusions are formulated. The fourth part presents the findings of the work. Work tasks: 1) To review the already conducted academic research examining the stereotypical attitudes of students and to form the theoretical assumptions that define the understanding of stereotypes in this work; 2) Carry out a qualitative study, in-depth semi-structured interviews with pupils and pupils from selected schools to find out their stereotypes; 3) Codify the obtained empirical data and determine which stereotypes are most frequently repeated; 4) To formulate the conclusions of the work, indicating the gender stereotypes on which the expectations and ideals of Lithuanian twelfth and twelfth graders towards politicians are based. This work will supplement the already available quantitative data on gender stereotypical attitudes and contribute to the already implemented research on gender studies in Lithuania. The study's relevance is based on the fact that it studies Lithuanian twelfth and twelfth-graders. It can be assumed that this generation coming into politics will have different preferences than the previous generations. The latter will probably be revealed when assessing the results of the upcoming presidential elections in the Republic of Lithuania. With this in mind, this generation should be included in the priority list of subjects. Interviews with graduates can provide helpful and interesting information - what kind of thinking assumptions they and they are based on, what norms are acceptable to them, in general, what is important this time. Summarizing the most important research results: Trends in stereotypical attitudes towards and among twelve gradually weaken or remain unchanged. Based on the results obtained, the established norms of the majority of respondents start to be critically assessed and questioned. |
