Abstract [eng] |
Ovarian cancer leads in the number of deaths caused by female reproductive organ cancer. In general, the lifetime chance of developing ovarian cancer is around 1,3%, and according to latest European statistics 3 percent of all females with diagnosed oncology had ovarian cancer. Ovarian clear cell carcinoma incidence is even lower, however it is strongly associated with the asian population. It is most common among asian women and this connection is linked to a higher prevalence of endometriosis among this population, because ovarian clear cell carcinoma is considered to be endometriosis associated cancer. The exact mechanism of transformation from endometriosis to cancer is not known but the dominating hypotheses are chronic inflamation and DNA damage. Even though endometriosis is now considered a precursor to ovarian cancer, recent literature has found that endometriosis is a positive prognostic factor of overall survival in ovarian clear cell carcinoma patients. Despite thoroughly documented ovarian clear cell carcinoma resistance to platinum chemotherapy it is still the primary choice for chemotherapy of ovarian clear cell carcinoma patients. This is because there currently is a lack of alternative cytotoxic and immunotherapy options. After radiological restaging, the patient underwent reoperation: laparoscopic left salpingoovarectomy with adhesions removal and omentectomy. Currently patient is in remission. |
